Mirror ceiling: where it works, where it fails
Doubling the room's volume or cheap 90s vibes. Fine line between premium and kitsch.
A mirror ceiling can make a room visually 1.5× bigger — or turn it into a 1990s disco. The difference isn't material, it's application.
01Where it works
- Small bathrooms (2–4 m², 2.5 m ceiling) — doubles height. Must be smooth (no central fixture)
- Walk-in closets — see outfits from above
- Gyms and dance studios (with anti-shatter film)
- Decorative accent over a bed or table (small panel, not whole ceiling)
02Where it fails
- Living room with central chandelier — reflects fixture + dust + cables
- Bedroom — psychologically hard for many; we've redone two from this
- 4+ m ceilings — magnification effect lost, only reflects dirt
- Family rooms with kids — every morning means cleaning juice trails

Rule: mirror ceilings work in SMALL spaces with restrained design. Big living rooms with eclectic decor — fail. Hesitating? Do a 1×2 m insert over a functional zone, not the whole ceiling.
