Glass stair treads: laminated under your feet
Can you swap wood treads for glass? Tech, anti-slip, prices, real limits.
Glass treads can be done two ways: as part of a new glass staircase, or as a replacement for wooden treads on an existing metal frame. The second is in demand — refresh an old staircase without full rebuild.
01Build
Standard: 8+8+10 mm laminated with two 0.76 mm PVB films. 27 mm package. Up to 1200×320 mm per tread. Anti-slip — sandblast pattern, class R10 min (R11 for kids/elderly).
02Replacing wood treads
Metal frame? Wood comes off in a day, glass goes in. Frame must be: metal (not wood), tread size up to 1.2×0.32 m, frame healthy (no rust), mechanical fixings (not welded).

Real case: Zelenogorsk house, 18 wood steps → glass 1200×320 + LED. 18 × (32 000+8 400) = 727 200 ₽ + 38 000 ₽ demo + install = 765 200 ₽. 4 weeks lead time.
Don't: glass treads on a wood frame (frame moves with humidity, glass cracks), tempered instead of laminated (shattering = falling), no anti-slip (wet foot on polished glass = injury).
