Glass bathroom door: sealing and acoustics done right
Wet zone, transition to bedroom or hallway, condensation, water noise. What the door needs to actually work.
A glass bathroom door is aesthetics, light, space. And three engineering problems to solve: perimeter sealing, water-noise insulation, condensation management. Skip any one and complaints come within six months.
01Perimeter sealing
Door-to-jamb gaps are 2–5 mm by spec. Without sealing, shower water escapes. Options:
- Magnetic seal vertical — clicks shut. 10+ years, doesn't yellow.
- Flexible silicone seal on bottom — hugs the tile, directs water into the tray.
- Magnetic threshold sweep — strongest option for showers integrated into bathrooms without a curb.
02Acoustics
10 mm glass + closed door = ~32 dB insulation. Shower noise (65–75 dB) sounds like 35–40 dB on the other side — intelligible but quiet.
For bathroom adjacent to bedroom — use 8+8 laminated (38 dB) or double glazing with air cavity (42 dB). Delta on a typical 80×210 cm door — about 12 000 ₽.
03Condensation
Typical bathroom: +24 °C, 90% humidity. Glass door is cold (hallway +20 °C) — moisture condenses.
Prevention: exhaust ventilation + 8–10 mm gap under the door for airflow. Without that, moisture film eats the seals and darkens the silicone in 2 years.
04Closer: critical for shared bathrooms
Family with kids slams the door 15–20 times a day. Without a closer, hinges loosen in 2–3 years. With one, hinges last 15+ years.

For small bathrooms: hinged-outward or sliding. Door opening INTO the bathroom blocks access in emergencies (someone falls near the door — rescuers can't get in).
