How to maintain a glass shower for 15 years
Limescale, silicone seams, hardware. Simple rules, cheap products — no harsh chemistry, no replacement at year 5.
A glass shower can run 15+ years, or lose its look in two. The difference isn't the glass or the hardware — it's maintenance. Ten minutes once a week determines how the enclosure looks at end of warranty.
01Main enemy: limescale
Hard water in St. Petersburg (10–14 °dH) leaves white deposits after every shower. A month untouched: a "haze" at the edges. Six months: permanent stains.
Prevention: squeegee water off the glass after every shower (200 ₽ tool). 30 seconds, scale doesn't form at all. The main life hack nobody does in year one.
02Weekly cleaning
- 9% vinegar + water 1:1 in a sprayer. Spray, 3 minutes, rinse, dry cloth. Acetic acid dissolves scale completely.
- Baking soda + citric acid for old spots. Paste, 5 minutes, rinse.
- Glass cleaner with microfiber for shine after acid treatment.
